Video: The ABB robot made of Lego!

Lego seems to be all the rage at the moment (though did it ever go away?), with the Danish toy company’s profits continuing to grow and the recent release of a movie based on those colourful bricks.

As Lego enters the world of programmable robotics with its Mindstorms series, a couple of dedicated engineers have constructed a version of the IRB 120 robot entirely out of the famous blocks – a painstaking process which took eight months of their spare time.

The amazing automaton replicates the contours and movements of the original IRB 120, and while it cannot match the speed or capacity of the real thing, it’s an impressive creation. Here’s a video of the Lego IRB 120 in action:

There’s plenty of information about Gibbons’ range of ABB motors and variable-speed drives on our website, but feel free to call us on 01621 868138 or email info@gibbonsgroup.co.uk with any questions.
