What is a transmission system?

In mechanical engineering, a transmission system helps to transmit power from a motor to the driven machinery. The transmission systems most people are familiar with are car gearboxes (in American English, the terms manual and automatic transmission are commonplace), which adapt power from the engine to the drive wheels via a series of gears.

However, transmission systems are used for all manner of other functions, including agricultural, industrial and construction applications.

Transmission systems mean a small rotation force (torque) from an electric motor can be used to produce a much greater rotation force, allowing a slow rate of revolution to be speeded up.

Transmission systems are used to control equipment such as turntables, palletisers, lifting equipment, dosing machines, mixers, pumps and conveyors.

Gibbons Engineering Group is pleased to offer transmission systems from top manufacturers such as Sumitomo and Bonfiglioli. Our comprehensive range includes:

  • Modular gear motors
  • Worm gear motors
  • Heavy-duty gears
  • Shaft-mounted gears
  • Bevel gears
  • Speed variators.
