Upgrade frost coils and protect your HVAC system this winter

The UK, if forecasts are to be believed, is about to be gripped by a heavy bout of wintry weather, so if you haven’t done so already it’s a good idea to consider upgrading your air handling unit (AHU) frost coils.

Frost coils (also known as pre-heat coils) are often the first stage of HVAC air treatment as they protect the AHU from freezing. Long-established frost coils or those with unsuitable antifreeze are well known for bursting during winter and causing an untimely nuisance for building occupants. What’s less commonly known is that the cost of installing new coils is relatively low when compared to the expense of cleaning up after a burst.

Gibbons’ HVAC Services Manager Andrew Knight says: “We get a large number of calls to urgently replace burst frost coils, and in most cases the client’s hassle could have been avoided had the equipment been upgraded at an appropriate time. We have a flexible approach and work around our customer’s schedule to minimise disruption and ensure they don’t experience any unnecessary downtime. We can even construct big kit-form coils - built, brazed and pressure tested on site if required.”
