New ABB drives figures highlight huge global energy savings

As an Authorized Value Provider (AVP) for ABB drives, we’ve helped countless clients across the UK and beyond make significant savings in electric motor-driven applications. But what about the global impact?

ABB has released new statistics which reveal just how much energy was saved by its installed base of variable-speed drives in 2014. Here are some of the key facts:

  • Around 445 TWh (terawatt-hours) of electricity was saved last year, equivalent to the energy use of 110 million homes.
  • In 2005, the energy saved worldwide by ABB drives was about 100 TWh, a figure which has increased by 78% over the last decade.
  • Comparing the energy saved with the amount that would have been generated by fossil-fuel-powered electricity plants, ABB drives reduced CO2 emissions by 370 million tons last year. This is equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 90 million cars.

These figures highlight the considerable energy savings achievable when variable-speed drives are connected to electric motor-driven processes such as pumps, fans and conveyors. If you’d like more information, contact Alan Roberts on 07966 468430 or email alan.roberts@gibbonsgroup.co.uk
