Smaller manufacturers yet to solve the productivity puzzle

A new survey has found that small and medium-sized manufacturers need to improve productivity by the end of the year in order to meet their planned growth.

The Manufacturing Barometer found that 84% of those surveyed were behind on their 2015 productivity targets and needed to increase energy efficiency and maximise output to catch up.

The research reveals that 95% of companies will maintain or increase their investment on resources such as premises, new technology and machinery.

For electric motor-driven processes, one piece of equipment most manufacturers could consider is the variable-speed drive. These invaluable devices change the fixed frequency and voltage of an electric motor to achieve the precise speed for the process in hand. By doing so, they can significantly enhance the productivity of a huge range of applications, including pumps, fans and conveyors.
