What are NEMA ratings?

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) is a US-based organisation comprising almost 400 electrical equipment and medical imaging producers.

NEMA has a ratings system for electrical enclosures, similar to the IEC’s Ingress Protection (IP) standard. NEMA ratings don’t match exactly to IP codes, but if you do come across them then it’s useful to know the equivalent protection they cover.
