What are the main components of a swimming pool pump?

For swimming pool pump users, it’s important to have a basic understanding of how the equipment works. Here we take a quick look at some of the main components of a swimming pool pump.

Electric motor

The electric motor, sized according to the swimming pool volume, rotates the pump’s impeller.

Impeller

The spinning impeller forces water from the drains through the filter before returning it to the pool.

Strainer basket

The basket stops the pump from becoming clogged by catching larger debris – such as leaves – that has been sucked through the drains while allowing water to continue flowing.

Filter

The filter traps finer dirt and debris before the clean water is circulated back to the pool.

Those are the basics when it comes to swimming pool pumps, but if you have a technical query, your pool pump has failed or are looking to buy new equipment, give the experts at Gibbons a call.
