The A-Z of Gibbons: E is for…

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) makes it mandatory for UK organisations employing more than 250 staff and with an annual turnover over £39 million (or a balance sheet in excess of £34 million) to be audited for energy efficiency. This forms part of the UK’s commitment to the EU Energy Efficiency Directive.

Eligible firms had to be audited for energy efficiency by January 29th 2016, while the next deadline for the submission of surveys and evidence is December 5th 2019. Compliance dates for the third and fourth phases are set at four-year intervals which will take the scheme up to 2027. It is not yet clear how the recent EU referendum result will affect ESOS eligibility for UK companies.

Acting on the recommendations resulting from an ESOS audit can significantly reduce energy consumption, save money and can be used to help improve public perception of a business.

Gibbons works with clients across multiple sectors to meet their energy-saving targets. As well as being a supplier, installer and service provider for electric motors, Lowara pumps and Bonfiglioli gearboxes, we’re also an authorised value provider for ABB drives. We can assess motor-driven processes in order to identify opportunities for improvements that may enhance energy efficiency.
