Are unpleasant odours in your staff toilets affecting morale?

Unpleasant smells are the most common cause of complaint from staff over workplace washroom conditions, according to a report in Facilities Management Journal.

The FMJ piece (‘Cleaning up in the washroom’ – October 2016) states that 82 per cent of complaints received by FMs over toilet facilities concern offensive odours, and that staff morale can be negatively affected as a result.

Along with the obvious hygiene issues, unpleasant-smelling toilet facilities also affect the perception that workers have of their employer, with more than two-thirds believing that poor washroom standards indicate management failings.

Odours in washrooms are traditionally dealt with by opening windows and spraying chemical-based fragrances – but shouldn’t FMs strive to achieve a permanent, reliable solution?

That’s where the AirCare® system from Gibbons Ultraviolet Solutions comes in. This innovative technology uses ultraviolet C (UVC) light to kill germs, viruses and bacteria both in the air and on surfaces while removing odours at source – not just covering them up as artificial fragrances do.

AirCare® comes as a single unit which is easy to install, requires very little maintenance and helps FMs avoid using consumable fragrance cartridges and batteries.
