The A-Z of Gibbons: I is for…

IE3 electric motors

On January 1st 2015, the new European Minimum Energy Performance Standard (EU MEPS) electric motor energy-efficiency regulations came into effect, with Gibbons keeping its clients aware of the deadline in the months leading up to it.

The new legislation made it compulsory for all 7.5 – 375 kW electric motors sold in the EU to be rated at IE3 efficiency (although there are exceptions), or IE2 if connected to a variable-speed drive.

Gibbons now offers IE3 motors as standard, but our position as an ABB authorised value provider means we can supply IE2 motors and ABB drives as a packaged solution where required.

From January 1st 2017, the regulations will be tightened to include motors from 0.75 – 375 kW, although IE2 motors will still be acceptable if coupled with a VSD.

If you’re unsure which efficiency class you need to select when ordering an electric motor, call Steven Burmby on 01621 868138 or email steven@gibbonsgroup.co.uk.

To enquire about improving the efficiency of a process powered by an IE2 electric motor, call Gibbons’ Drives Manager Alan Roberts on 07966 468430 or email alan@gibbonsgroup.co.uk
