Brexit could see energy prices increase by 5-10% in 2017

The UK’s decision to leave the European Union could result in a 5-10 per cent increase in energy price, according to microeconomics consultancy Frontier Economics.

It’s anticipated that, as the Brexit transition takes place over the next 12 months and the value of Sterling falls, energy commodities will increase in price. Frontier Economics expects this to lead to substantial price rises for consumers, and while UK energy consumption is predicted to fall during the next two years, this will not be dramatic enough to offset energy price rises.

Operators of electric motor-driven applications should be concerned about the likely hike in their electricity bills in the coming months and years, as such processes account for around two thirds of industrial energy consumption.
