3 ways farmers can cool and dry grain

For decades, Gibbons Agricultural Fans has been manufacturing high-performance steel and aluminium centrifugal fans for farms across East Anglia and beyond.

So we’re well aware of the pressures faced by farmers during the hectic harvest season, and the devastating impact poor grain store ventilation can have on a prosperous yield.

Depending on individual requirements, there are various methods for cooling and drying grain within a crop store, three of which we will look at here.

Floor level fans

Centrifugal fans positioned at ground level outside the grain store enable crops to be aerated from beneath via horizontal ductwork.

Spear fans

These are temporary installations which allow fans to be moved according to hotspot locations, helping to reduce the risk of insect infestations.

Grain conditioning fans

Grain conditioning fans are fitted permanently within a grain store and spaced apart equally in such a way as to enable grain to be loaded and unloaded easily.
