Gibbons UVGI installation

The installation of a CoilCare® system is undertaken by experienced engineers who use calibrated digital equipment to measure relevant parameters. Samples of biofilm are taken using industry-standard contact plates.

The workflow

Measuring and sampling:

  • Detailed site survey of each AHU recorded by a Gibbons engineer
  • Airflow velocity and volume, humidity, temperature and pressure recorded for each AHU
  • Two samples taken from the surface of the cooling coil with agar contact plates
  • One contact plate sample given to customer

Within 30 days of sampling:

  • Survey report for each AHU provided to customer detailing any remedial work required
  • Energy-efficiency report on site-wide HVAC system provided to customer
  • Agar contact plate will show cultures of bacteria, fungi, mould and other constituents of biofilm
  • Decision made as to the timing of the installation

Pre-installation

  • Bespoke stainless steel racking system made for the CoilCare® units
  • CoilCare® units and photonisers tested at the Gibbons factory

Installation

  • Takes just a few hours with one or two Gibbons engineers

After UVGI, typically within 60 days:

  • Samples taken from the surface of the cooling coil with agar contact plates
  • Pressure drop across cooling coil measured

Post-installation - typical results

  • Complete eradication of biofilm as proved by clear contact plates
  • Airflow restored to as-built performance
  • Longer-term monitoring will demonstrate HVAC system efficiency improvement
