Gibbons were commissioned to replace a motor gear box for Bairds Malt – a leading UK name in malt production. Having served the brewing and distilling industries worldwide since being founded almost 100 years ago, Bairds has a total annual production capacity of over 250,000 tonnes across its six malt houses in England and Scotland.
Gibbons have been proud to work with Bairds for many years as a trusted supplier of high-quality products and services, and we were on hand to assist once again when the firm had a roast house drum motor gearbox to replace at its Witham plant.
The existing Bauer gearbox had been in operation for a number of years and had begun to fail, and on examination it was decided to replace rather than repair the old equipment. Following the removal of the old motor gearbox, we carried out a pre-planned torque arm modification and mounting position adjustment on the new equipment.
The efficiency of our engineers meant that the new Sumitomo gearbox was fitted and fully operational within a day. This was to the great delight of the Bairds team, who commented that they were initially unaware the gearbox was running because it was so much quieter than the old equipment!
