A fast-learning apprentice reached a milestone only months after joining a Tollesbury based firm.

Harry Hughes, 18, of Tiptree, joined Gibbons Engineering Group as an apprentice in June, after gaining a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Colchester Institute.

Harry (pictured) carried out his first full electric motor rewind two weeks ago, after making swift progress under the tutelage of the team at the company’s rewinds and repairs workshop.

Director and engineering services manager Matthew Gibbons said: “Harry’s first completed project was a single-phase motor, which he stripped down before diligently rewinding to our exacting standards.

“Harry then tested the motor before it was returned to the customer and put back in operation.”

The company, founded in 1969, which supplies electro-mechanical equipment and services to a variety of markets, has welcomed apprentices for decades.

Harry is at the start of a two-year in-house training programme, to become a workshop engineer.
