Colin Hardman represented Gibbons Ultraviolet Solutions at CIBSE’s Build2Perform event this week, speaking to attendees about the links between indoor air quality (IAQ) and the health and wellbeing of building occupants.
Held at Olympia London, Build2Perform is a building performance conference that brings together some of the industry’s leading organisations and personnel.
A major outcome of this year’s event was the formation of the CIBSE HVAC Systems Special Interest Group, with Mr Hardman one of the first to register. Chair of the group Tony Day said that the group aims to “ensure that best practice and innovation is shared across the sector” in an effort to improve IAQ.
Mr Hardman said: “I’m very pleased to be a part of this new group and look forward to engaging with my fellow members in the future. Indoor air quality has been talked about for more than a decade, yet progress has been slow at best.
“The creation of this group signifies that building performance is now being taken seriously and action will be taken to improve the health and wellbeing of building occupants. I’m excited that Gibbons Ultraviolet Solutions will be part of this.”
Gibbons Ultraviolet Solutions helps building owners and facilities managers to protect building occupants with our range of ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) systems for the disinfection of air and surfaces in commercial buildings.
Our flagship system is a chemical-free, low-maintenance unit containing photoniser lamps which is mounted within the air handling unit (AHU) of a HVAC system and applies ultraviolet-C (UVC) light to the cooling coil. By eradicating contaminants on and around the cooling coil surface, circulated air becomes sterile, healthy and safe for occupants to breathe.
This permanent solution and with continued use can prevent the re-growth of contaminants, protecting building occupants in the long term and helping to maintain a happy, healthy workforce for employers.
Meanwhile, the use of UVGI solutions from Gibbons can help companies to achieve WELL Building accreditation, improving public perception of the business in the process.
