Project Description
Reason for Visit:
The purpose of our visit to the Hospital was to conduct maintenance and repairs on various Air Handling Units (AHUs) that had been identified in a previous inspection report.
AHU 1 – Mersea Ward
Upon inspection of AHU 1 in the Mersea Ward, our task was to replace the bearing on the supply fan. After isolating and securing the fan, we successfully replaced the bearing provided by the site. The pulley was realigned, belts reinstalled, and the fan tested thoroughly, operating without any issues.
AHU 2 – Children’s Outpatients Department
In the Children’s Outpatients Department, we began by shutting down AHU 2 for cleaning purposes. We meticulously vacuumed and cleaned each section of the AHU, including the coils to ensure they were free of debris. Sections showing signs of corrosion were wire brushed and treated with anti-corrosion paint. Additionally, we addressed issues highlighted in the report, such as failed lights, which were replaced promptly. The traps were cleaned and filled with water, and although access limitations hindered full attenuator cleaning, we performed the best possible cleaning given the circumstances.
AHU 2/10 – Neo-Natal
Working closely with the Neo-Natal department, we accessed AHU 2/10 for maintenance, allowing for its use until required due to temperature changes. We conducted thorough cleaning, noting that filters recently changed were in good condition and did not require replacement. External cleaning was also performed, removing accumulated debris and grease. A minor air leak from an access door was addressed with door foam, and a broken belt was replaced, ensuring all belts were in optimal condition.
AHU 2 – Mortuary
Focus on AHU 2 in the Mortuary began with extensive cleaning of the heavily blocked coil, involving brushing and vacuuming to remove debris. Severe corrosion of coil fins necessitated careful handling during cleaning. Anti-corrosion treatment was applied to corroded floors and other affected areas within the unit.
SSU AHU 1 – Washroom & AHU 3 – IAP
For AHU 1 in the Washroom and AHU 3 in the Intensive Care Unit (IAP), our approach started with thorough cleaning, particularly focusing on coil debris removal. We treated identified corrosion areas and addressed clogged eliminators and cleaned drip trays as per the report.
Elmstead Theatre 7 & Recovery
AHUs in Elmstead Theatre 7 and Recovery were serviced during downtime, beginning with coil cleaning and internal unit cleaning. Corrosion was treated, and malfunctioning lights were replaced with sourced bulbs. Excess grease on bearings was cleaned and replaced, and slipping belts were tightened. External cleaning of the AHU completed the maintenance.
Main Theatre 12
Maintenance on AHU in Main Theatre 12 commenced with coil cleaning, focusing on removing loose debris. Corrosion treatment with anti-corrosion paint followed, along with cleaning of glass traps and drip trays. Modifications since the initial report included additional ductwork near the discharge.
Conclusion
Overall, our comprehensive maintenance and repair operations across the Hospital’s AHUs addressed specific issues outlined in previous inspection reports. By conducting thorough cleaning, treating corrosion, and replacing necessary components, we ensured optimal performance and functionality of each unit, contributing to improved operational efficiency and air quality within the hospital environment.
